Mancunian, City Road

The Mancunian was a Marston's estate pub in the St George's part of Hulme, situated at the convergence of Royce Road and City Road. Seen here in 1970, from the same angle today it's clear that these new build flats have replaced the Mancunian.

Although not much to look at - a one storey boozer with two storey house attached - the Mancunian did have a smart-looking sign out front.  It looks like it's an attempt at recreating the Manchester ship, as featured on the Coat of Arms symbolising trade and enterprise.  There is a colour snap of the Mancunian byAlan Winfield at pubsgalore.
