Kings Head, Chancellor Lane

The Kings Head is a recently closed Ardwick pub on the corner of Chancellor Lane and North Western Street in the shadow of the mainline rail route out of Piccadilly.  Apparently, the Kings Head had been closed for a number of years before the last owners reopened it and made real a go of it in the late '90s and '00s.

It's been closed for a few years now though.  I think I'm right in saying that the Kings Head was the site of some serious violence following one of the early Manchester derbies at Eastlands.

The Kings Head is seen here in 1905, clearly the same building we see sitting sadly closed today, and it had a a next door neighbour.  The pub goes back to the mid-1800s at least, and is shown in the 1849 map as being on the corner of what were then Chancery Lane and Upper Sheffield Street.  The railway had already arrived but was then just two tracks rather than the six we have today.
