In a month that's seen the sale of the BBC's Oxford Road HQ, New Broadcasting House, ahead of their relocation to Salford Quays, here's another one that preceded it. The Cotton Tree stood on Saville Street on the corner of York Street in the 1850s. Saville Street was parallel to Charles Street and was the continuation of Chester Street, while York Street was unbroken, running parallel to Oxford Road. The site of the Cotton Tree is the internal BBC car park .
