Cross Keys, Longworth Street

Longworth Street today runs parallel behind the Deansgate frontage between Tonman Street, crossing Camp Street, St John Street and then meets Artillery Street. The 1849 map shows the Cros Keys are a comparatively large pub on the corner of Longworth and Camp Street, above the Manchester and Salford Junction Canal Tunnel. These days nowt but a few trees sit on this site while the Canal Tunnel that runs away beneath Camp Street remains disused, except for a small section which sits beneath Central Station / GMEX which is occasionally open to the public for tunnel tours (and great fun they are too).

Former site of the Cross Keys, Longworth Street. (c) googlemaps.
