Pictured above in the 1090s and late '00s, the Royal George was ran by City legend of the glory years of the late '60s and early '70s, George Heslop.  He sadly passed away in 2006, but Heslop also ran the Carter's Arms in Wilmslow and the famous, and also sadly gone, City Gates.  This was the original Hyde Road Hotel near City's old, old ground, where Ardwick A. F. C. became Manchester City F. C. in 1894.

The Royal George was known as the Imperial Wreath in the mid 1800s, as shown on the 1849 map on the corner of Lever Street and Farraday (then Friday) Street [1].
